Registration Hold? Complete Student Verification

August 20, 2019

Twice a year, Duke students must verify their personal information through a step-by-step Student Verification process in DukeHub.

What happens if a student does not complete the process?

A registration hold is placed on every student's record until this Student Verification task is completed. Any student with this hold will not be able to add or drop a class from their Fall 2019 schedule until the process has been completed.

Students will still be able to view their grades, class schedules, and financial aid; update proxy access; and pay their bursar bill before they verify.

How does a student start and complete the process?

Students can access the Student Verification process on the homepage of DukeHub. Locate the Student Holds section, and click the link at the end of the message ("Select to complete Student Verification.")

Students must click Finish and then Exit to officially complete this guide. If the Complete Task status is still an open circle, the student has not completed the task. Once the guide is complete, the registration hold will be removed.

How does a student progress through and navigate within the process?

Students can see which section they are in at the left (section titled Task Details). If a section is marked with an open circle, the student can access that section. If a section is marked with a filled green circle, they have completed that section. If a section is marked with an “i” in a blue bubble, that section has yet to completed and the student cannot access that section until they complete the previous section.

In each section, students must select the Verify button in order for the Next button to be made available. Students must select the Next button to move to the next section. If a student edits information on the page and selects Save, the Verify button will automatically be marked, and the Next button will be available to select to move forward.

Additional information on and screenshots of individual sections of the Student Verification can be found below.

Student must select the Mark as Read button to start the verification and then select the Next button to proceed with the verification.

Students cannot edit their Primary names. Contact registrar@duke.edu to do so.

Click Verify and then click Next to move to the next step of the Student Verification process.

Students can only enter a social security number if XXX-XX-XXXX appears. Contact registrar@duke.edu to make any edits or corrections to an existing national ID.

Click Verify and then click Next to move to the next step of the Student Verification process.

Students can provide additional email addresses and specify a preferred address. To change a Duke email address, visit oit.duke.edu/selfservice.

Click Verify and then click Next to move to the next step of the Student Verification process.

All students are required to provide a Local Residence Address (labeled Local Res. in Student Verification process). A local address refers to where students are at the given moment—it may not be near the Duke campus in Durham or even domestic if a student is studying abroad.

Click Verify and then click Next to move to the next step of the Student Verification process.

Local Residence Address type missing?

Click Add a new address, enter address information, and click OK. Then select Local Res. as the address type.

If a student's local address is the same as the Home or Mail address, it must still be reentered and identified as a Local Res. address.

Dorm/Residence Hall incorrect?

Students living in a dorm will have a Local Residence/Residence Hall address link. Students cannot edit this information if they are living on campus. If a dorm assignment is incorrect, complete the rest of the verification and then follow up with Housing & Residence Life.

Students can edit most information in the Relationships section. However, information for parents who have applied for a Federal Direct PLUS Loan cannot be edited here (pencil icon will not appear). Complete the rest of the verification and contact the Student Loan Office to request updates for these relationships.

Click Verify and then click Next to move to the next step of the Student Verification process.

Students can add or update emergency contact information in this section.

Click Verify and then click Next to move to the next step of the Student Verification process.

Students who plan on traveling with a Duke University program should enter their passport information in this section. However, passport information is not required for all students. If a student wishes to leave their passport information blank, they should click Verify to proceed with the verification.

Click Verify and then click Next to move to the next step of the Student Verification process.

All students must provide a military status before moving on to the next step.

Click Update to add or update military experience—students with no military status should select No Military Service (2).

Click Verify and then click Next to move to the next step of the Student Verification process.
