First-year undergraduate students and first-year undergraduate transfer students are identified in the Midterm Required column of the grade roster in the Classic Faculty Center or by sorting the Expected Grad Term column in the Grade Roster.

  • First-year undergraduate students have an expected grad term of 2028.
  • First-year undergraduate transfer students will have an earlier grad term.

If you are planning to enter grades using the Grade Roster, we recommend first accessing the grade roster in the Classic Faculty Center to easily identify both first-year and first-year transfer students. Instructions for identifying students and for entering grades in the Classic Faculty Center and the Grade Roster are below.

  • To determine the students for whom a midterm grade is required, follow the steps below to review your class rosters using the Classic Faculty Center

  • Click on the Grade Roster icon for each class.

  • First-year undergraduate students are identified in the Midterm Required column. You can enter the midterm grades from this screen (Classic Faculty Center) or in the Grade Roster

  • After entering grades, click Submit Grades.

    • If upper-level undergraduate students are enrolled in the class, the following message will pop up after clicking Submit Grades. Click Yes.

    • After clicking Yes, the following message will appear. Click OK.

    • The grade roster will reappear, and the Submit Grades button will be grayed out. The midterm grades you entered have been posted to student record.

  • NOTE: Unlike with Final Grades, you may still edit midterm grades previously entered or enter midterm grades for other students by clicking on the Enter/Edit non-posted Grades button. 

CROSS-LISTED CLASSES

There is a separate grade roster for each cross-listed section of a class. Click each section to identify first year students and enter midterm grades..

To find the midterm grade roster for your course(s) in DukeHub:

Step 1: Open DukeHub, click on the Student, Faculty, and Advisor Login tile, and login with your NetID and password.

Step 2: Identify the class for which you are entering midterm grades and click anywhere in that row. Select View Details, and then select the class from the drop-down menu.* The Grade Roster page will open.

*If you are teaching a cross-listed class, click on Cross-listed Class to show all cross-listed sections on the next screen.

Step 3: First year students can be identified by sorting for EXP GRAD TERM 2028 Spring Term or later. (First year undergraduate transfer students can be identified by accessing the roster through the CLASSIC FACULTY CENTER.) 

  • Select a Roster Grade from the drop-down menu for each applicable student. 
  • Click the Submit Grades button.  The grades will post immediately to student records.  You can disregard messages regarding partial grade submission and finalizing the grade roster for mid-term grading.

  • CHANGING MIDTERM GRADES: You may still edit midterm grades previously entered or enter midterm grades for other students by returning to Grade Roster, selecting a new Roster Grade for the student, and clicking the Save button. Midterm grades are editable because they are not part of a student’s permanent record and are not posted to student transcripts.
